All the things
were wonderful before, until one・s accident, they changed. In a little town, there was a boy
called Louis Braille. His father was a harness maker. Louis loved to watch his father work.
He was only three years old but he already
knew what he wanted to be when he grew
up. He wanted to be a harness maker, just like
his father.
Louis promised his father he wouldn・t
touch the tools, because it was sharp and dangerous. But sometimes, promises are
hard to keep. Louis picked up an awl and played with it. Unluckily, it seemed to jump through the air and plunged right into
Louis・s eye. After this he becme blind. Poor
Louis, his life had been turned topsy-turvy. As he couldn・t see anything, he made
many mistakes. Although he couldn・t accept his blindness/handicap, he never gave
up. He made up his mind to invent some easy ways for all blind people to read and write. It took Louis three years to work out his alphabet of raised dots. With this alphabet, blind people could read as fast as other people. After he died, his name became known around the world because his invention helped many blind people.
I think Louis Braille was a brave and excellent man. I have heard many deeds
about blind people.Their determination to overcome their handicap made me revere them. I respected Louis Braille very much. His kindness, courage and intelligence made a deep impression on me. Although he is blind, he did not give up. To me if I can・t see anything, it・s hard to go forward bravely without looking back. If I were
blind, I believe that I wouldn・t have the courage to continue my life. I would
complain to God and feel sad. But these thoughts didn・t enter Louis・s mind. It
shows his courage and determination. He also made some great achievements.
It was so touching when Louis asked his mum, :When will morning come?;
and he liked to say, :When I sing I can see my way much better;. I felt touched
and sad because I knew that he was blind and couldn・t see anything else.
The first time I saw this book, I was attracted by the book・s cover. There is
a boy whose eyes are shut with his hands on a plank. I felt curious and confused
and wondered why he had closed his eyes? : Is he blind ? ; So, I wanted to read
the book. After I read the book, I was profoundly touched by his achievements.
To me, Louis is one of the greatest people who ever lived. I learnt about his spirit
of determination and courage through this book.
